Building on his initial background in software engineering with Bradford Corporation, John developed into a highly successful business analyst with the Avon Rubber Company and 1900 Programming and then as a project manager with Twinlock Computer Services. Over time with a number of clients, he developed his own unique approach to project management, which proved to be very successful over a string of challenging projects.
He moved into a management role and subsequently became a director of TCS, CSL and Ernst & Young Jersey but his main focus was always project management. When the opportunity came he founded Carroll Consultants Ltd specialising in project management consultancy and training. During this time he carried out numerous project across Europe and the United States, advised many companies on their project management practices and developed hundreds of project managers through his training courses. He now has over 30 years’ experience running projects, programs, portfolios and project management training courses.
Drawing on this wealth of real-life project experience John has published a number of books on various aspects of project management. He has also worked with most types of organizations including government, higher education, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, software engineering and the emergency services and has developed good presentation and communications skills.
Now semi-retired, John lives in the South West of England where, in addition to writing, blogging and the odd spot of consultancy, he enjoys walking, cycling, swimming, playing walking rugby, sourdough bread baking and drinking beer at The Bridge Inn, Topsham.
John is a Member of the British Computer Society, a Chartered Engineer, European Engineer and has an MSc in Information Technology from the University of Exeter. He is also a certified PRINCE2 practitioner.
